Bamboo is the most diverse group of plants in the grass family. There are about 1200 species of Bamboo from 22 genres. In India about 125 indigenous and 11 exotic species of Bamboo.
India is the second largest producer of Bamboo but the major issue regarding consumers not buying Bamboo Products is the perception as Bamboo handicrafts can be a great way to change consumer perception and increase the appeal of Bamboo products and will increase the quality as well as durability of the product.
I aimed to create a comprehensive solution for the Bamboo Chik Matt artisans in Ahmedabad, by focusing on skill development, market linkages, infrastructure improvement, exploring design through Eco innovative solutions, and Developing low-tech tools for the same. Developing a tool was an attempt to understand and make it a cheaper cost
